Light up the dark with a DIY lantern

In October the days are growing shorter, and when the clocks change to wintertime – oh my! – it gets pitch-dark before you know it. Luckily, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You see, dark afternoons go hand in hand with creativity and cosy afternoon hours inside.

Here, we’ll show you some inspiration for how to make your own Jack-o’lantern with the kids. We trust that this upcycling idea will add a spooktacular sparkle to your Halloween home.

You’ll need:

Step 1

Remove labels from the jar, then wash and dry it.

Step 2

Choose a background colour for your lantern. Don’t paint too thick a layer, as you want the light to be able to shine through. Allow the paint to dry before you move on.

Step 3

Now it’s time to personalise your lantern and make it come alive. The devil is in the detail, so take it away and let your imagination run wild.

Step 4

Once your lantern is dry, it’s time to let in the light! Put a battery-powered tealight inside or use string lights.
