How to make a penguin seasonal card

Warm up for the most beautiful time of the year with handmade holiday greetings for the favourite people in your life. A handcrafted and handwritten Christmas card is a genuine and perfect way to show that you really care.

Hopefully, you find penguins as adorable as we do because you’ll be drawing them in a minute too. Get ready and take your North Pole position, as here are the things you’ll need to get started on this year’s Christmas card.

This is what you need

  1. 1. Watercolour kit (incl. craft cardboard)
  2. 2. Calligraphy set (pen and yellow ink)
  3. 3. Cardboard
  • 4. Cup of water

Preparation time

Painting in watercolour can be tricky and daunting for beginners, but here’s a step-by-step guide to follow:

Step 1

Dab a bit of water onto your brush (no paint yet).

Step 2

Dip the brush in the black colour and apply the paint to a sheet of blank cardboard. Use the cardboard as your palette so the colours are easier to work with

Time for the penguin

Step 3

Start by outlining the head and the beak.

Step 4

Sketch a large oval for the body. It should be partially covered by your penguin’s chin.

Step 5

Outline two wings on each side of the body (don’t make them too long or they might look more like arms).

Step 6

Paint the body and make two strokes at the bottom of the body for the feet.

Step 7

Paint two wings and the top of the penguin’s head black.

Step 8

Provide the penguin with a pair of eyes (two small dots).

Snowflake time!

Step 1

Dip the paintbrush in the blue colour.

Step 2

Paint an X in the size of the snowflake you want to paint.

Step 3

Add four more lines starting from the middle of the cross.

Step 4

Add a small V at the top and bottom of each of the eight lines.

Step 5

Dip the calligraphy pen into the ink and paint a half moon and a few stars.

Ta-dah! Merry Christmas!
