Four times a year, Flying Tiger Copenhagen raises money for Barnekreftforeningen in all of our stores across Norway.
Barnekreftforeningen is a voluntary nationwide organisation run by families who have or have had children with cancer. The association's goal is that no child should die of cancer.
Childhood cancer is the most common cause of death among children aged 1-14 in Norway. Every year around 200 new children and young people get cancer. Most people who get sick are between the ages of two and six, but children and young people of all ages can get cancer. Children get different forms of cancer than adults, and the disease itself behaves differently because children are growing and developing. For many children who have survived cancer, problems arise later in life that can be linked to the disease and the treatment, so-called late injuries. Therefore, they need completely different treatment than adults. Because children must be treated as children!
Barnekreftforeningen exists to help children and young people with cancer and their families. The association is present for the whole family, which means that both the sick child, siblings and parents are included. Some of the sick children have recovered, some have sustained injuries, some are undergoing treatment, while others, we have lost. The association also provides positive experiences for the children who have to be hospitalised for long periods.
Flying Tiger Copenhagen and Barnekreftforeningen have collaborated since 2020, and so far, we have collected over 3 million Norwegian kroner together with our wonderful customers. Barnekreftforeningen does not receive government funding for research into childhood cancer and the collaboration with companies such as Flying Tiger Copenhagen is therefore absolutely essential for the association to be able to contribute to research and education of professionals to fight childhood cancer.
Together we can make a difference for children with cancer.
